Here is my favorite matryoshka tile from the new series I started making a month ago. It was one of the three I dared to post in the etsy store (because they all have notches in the back for nails.) And it sold (!) so there is apparently there is another person out there that thinks it is as cool as I do.
Oh, the ups and downs of a new idea! What I struggle with is the hanging of the matryoshka. You can see in the photo below, that I made some tiles with holes, because I had this grand idea that I could use a ribbon for hanging. But, alas, I didn't anticipate how the ribbon would sag on the wall.
So I am trying to solve the problem with waxed linen twine and some carved bone and glass beads. We will see. I used to rent studio space in a tileworks here in Ashland, gallumphing around when I was pregnant with Theo, so I did observe first hand how deceptively simple it seems to make tiles. Even thinking about how they hang is a challenge. For we all are particular about these little "permanent paintings."
